Being a 24-year old male by
definition I should be one of the
last to comment on the current
moral structure of the country.
Yet I find myself in awkward
territory of agreed with
conservatives. I think this
country needs a awakening in the
morals department. Most of the
issues concerning the issue
involve television. Adults watch
shows such as Grey’s Anatomy and
Desperate Housewives which have
sexual themes while the kids are
in the next room watching MTV
which is featuring either the
newest starlet strutting across
the screen barley clothed while
belting out a meaningless song or
a reality show featuring young
people getting drunk and having
random sex purporting itself to
being the “real world”. Is that
the message we want to send to
our children? There was a time
when sex was a private thing
between a man and a woman, but
nowadays the best way to get
yourself on the a-list in
Hollywood is to either make a sex
tape or get out of a car with
your legs open. How far are we
willing to let it go?

Children are becoming sexually
active at an earlier age than
ever before. I think that the
lines between freedom and decency
become blurred. Sexually people
have been doing the same things
since the end of time, but now
its more of an open forum. Most
advertising is fueled by sex as
well. Commercials and magazine
ads let you know if you buy
certain products you will have
sex with attractive people. They
stopped cigarette companies from
doing it, but what about clothing
companies? I know cigarettes are
a health issue, but advertising
sex to children is wrong
regardless. It’s to the point
where you can’t even let your
children watch T.V. Unattended. I
recently saw a show on MTV where
they had 16 year olds throwing
extravagant parties for their
birthdays. Besides the fact that
spending over 100,000 dollars on
a children birthday party is
obscene. This is America so you
can do what you want. At one of
these parties the girls after
personally handing out
invitations while dissing
“regular” students had a party
where children where having sex
in public at the party. Can you
really blame them? They are at a
million dollar party with cameras
and alcohol. It was basically a
sensory overload. After they were
caught they were kicked out of
the party. I think the should
have received counseling.

The worst part of what’s going on
is that is seems like the rowdier
the act the more people are
rewarded in Hollywood. Angelina
Jolie and Brad Pitt engage in an
affair. Their reward was to
become the most popular couple in
Hollywood with movie rolls
pouring in. Paris Hilton releases
her own sex tape and for that she
received a new show and an
ambassador role to Rwanda.
Britney Spears goes on drug and
alcohol fueled binges and now has
the number one album in America.
What are the repercussions? Where
is the shame?  We need to take it
upon ourselves to instill at
least basic values back into
society, but before we point the
finger outward we have to point
it at ourselves.

Our countries obsession with sex
has been reaching a new high.
People are focused on issues like
gay marriage as the bane of
society. While shows like
Desperate Housewives, Grey’s
Anatomy and Dirty Sexy Money
constantly pump sexuality into
millions of homes every week and
nobody says anything about it.
Why because its big business and
in America we sell our souls for
a little cash. Well now we have
to not only worry about
ourselves, but the children that
sit right next to mommy and daddy
when the T.V. comes on.
