When I was younger and the subject of immigration started coming onto
the national scene I did not believe that immigrants from Mexico should
be allowed to come over here and that they were taking up jobs from
other Americans. My thoughts began to change when I found out about
outsourcing and that businesses intentionally move there companies to
other countries to save money and that was they cause of the job
shortages. Last year though while talking with a childhood friend he let
me know his mother was here illegally. It affected me more than I let on I
just couldn't’t believe it. When you picture illegal immigrants your mind
goes to a bunch of lazy criminals that have come here to leach off this
country. This women though was a mother to college bound children and
a dedicated wife. She is someone who has given me rides home from
school when I was tired and fed me when I was hungry. Then I knew the
benefits that immigration can bring valuable citizens that work for the
progress of this country. Isn't that what immigration is all about? The
pursuit of happiness and freedom are the foundations of this country.
When Emma Lazarus wrote
"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Did she think that only meant for Europeans and those with money. The
words of “New Colossus” speak directly to the Mexican immigrants. You
also have to think of how much hypocrisy comes into play. I am referring
to the fact that California and most of the South-Western United States
used to belong to Mexico. The problem in this country is not immigrants
taking all the jobs. Its large corporations outsourcing all the work to third-
world countries where they pay rock bottom salaries and get wide profit
margins. Then the same rich Republicans that run the companies turn
around and blame it on the “ Growing Immigration Problem” and most of
the country listens because they don’t know any better. Hopefully the
rallying and information that is being spread around the country does not
fall on deaf ears.
